Note: This description of the route uses only existing landmarks.
From Ala Moana, route would travel over the center of Kapiolani Blvd.
The next stop would be across from the Convention Center, probably integrated into a new commercial development in partnership with the property owners. From the Convention Center stop, route will travel across the Ala Wai to the Waikiki station, which will be located at Saratoga and Kalakaua, and then turn mauka and head back up to a station at Kapiolani and University. The line would continue up to the University of Hawaii via a stop in the University Square/Puck’s Alley area. There are tall power lines along the diamond head side of the street in this area, so it could be easiest to locate the station where Fed Ex currently sits, and then cross over to the diamond head side when the power lines go underground at University and Varsity. The H-1 freeway isn’t too high here, but a support tower near the freeway would elevate the line on its way to the next station, which would replace the Lunalilo Freeway Portables inside the off ramp loop (near the parking attendant booths on Lower Campus Road). This station will allow the route to bend, and it will also be very convenient for anyone going to the Stan Sheriff Center. Riders may also disembark here to board a bus continuing up into Manoa or going to Punahou. From the Stan Sheriff Center stop, route will travel over Lower Campus Road and Bachman Place to a final stop between Sinclair Library and the Campus Center (replacing Administrative Services Bldg 2). |
